For the first time, Hadar's Project Zug is offering a course in Spanish! Our pilot course for the Spanish speaking Jewish community is a complete Spanish translation of Rabbi Avi Strausberg's Intro to the Jewish Bookshelf. We thank Rabbi Diego Edelberg of Comunidad Bet El in Mexico City for translating the source sheets and video scripts.

Desde hace mucho tiempo, el pueblo judío ha sido llamado el “Pueblo del Libro”, un nombre muy apropiado dada nuestra profunda relación de amor con la tradición textual judía. Durante cientos de años, hemos estudiado una y otra vez los mismos textos sagrados en un intento por desentrañar su sabiduría, comprender su relevancia y participar de un diálogo y un debate que atraviesa generaciones. Sin embargo, puede resultar difícil ingresar a esta conversación sin tener una buena noción de cuáles son estos libros fundamentales, cómo funcionan y cómo integrarlos de la mejor manera en nuestras propias bibliotecas y en nuestras vidas. En este curso, examinaremos de cerca los textos esenciales que conforman la Biblioteca Judía, comenzando por la Torá.

A lo largo de nuestro estudio, aprenderemos no solo qué son estos textos y cómo funcionan, sino que los utilizaremos como una puerta de entrada a conversaciones sobre la creación en la Torá, la autodefensa en los textos rabínicos y la revelación a través de la mirada de pensadores modernos.

Educator

Rabbi Avi Strausberg is the Director of National Learning Initiatives at Hadar, and is based in Washington, DC. Previously, she served as the Director of Congregational Learning of Temple of Aaron in St. Paul, Minnesota. Avi studied at Hadar as a year fellow, and served on our summer faculty in 2014. She received her rabbinic ordination from Hebrew College in Boston and is a Wexner Graduate Fellow. She also holds a Masters in Jewish Education. While pursuing her studies, Avi was honored to serve as a rabbinic intern at Kehillath Israel and Temple Sinai. She has taught students of different ages and backgrounds at Kehillath Israel, Temple Sinai, Makor, and Hadar. Additionally, Avi has worked as a chaplain intern at Hebrew Senior Life and organized an anti-trafficking campaign as a rabbinic fellow at T’ruah. Energized by engaging creatively with Jewish text, she has written several theatre pieces inspired by the Torah and maintains a Daf Yomi haiku blog in which she writes daily Talmudic haikus. Avi is most grateful for her wife, Chana, and two children, Ori and Niv.
